The fifth-grade students have been learning about alchemy in Mrs. Krolikowski's science class. Mr. Sayer conducted a demonstration on changing a copper penny into silver and then into gold. Trickery or not? The copper penny was coated with zinc when liquid sodium hydroxide was heated with the zinc and penny. Then when the zinc-coated penny is heated in a flame it forms a common allow known as brass. Alchemy at its finest.

Check out this link with a video of Mrs. Keller's VMS fifth graders' first major social studies research project that required extensive investigation of North America's Native American tribes circa 16th and 17th centuries. The students' diligence resulted in quality research reports and creative dioramas that authentically depicted the tribes' lives. Great work, fifth graders!

In the observance of best safety practices and the assurance of social distancing, the ticketing process for the 2021 NSAA State Wrestling Tournament will look different than prior years.
• First, tickets will be sold individually (as opposed to by team and/or school) on Ticketmaster.com;
• All ticket sales will be purchased digitally and received digitally;
• To limit potential touchpoints, physical tickets are no longer available;
• Tickets may be purchased in pods of two or four, pods may not be split;
• All of the tickets within a pod must be purchased;
• Availability will be based upon approved capacity from the State Governor’s Office and Douglas County Health Department (DCHD).
Tickets will be sent to a purchaser via email. For entry, a guest may either access tickets directly from their email inbox or by utilizing the Ticketmaster smartphone app. CHI Health Center Omaha staff members can scan a QR code directly from a visitor’s smart device. Guests will keep their phone(s) in their own possession at all times.
MECA and the NSAA continue to collaborate on and determine needed modifications in order to receive necessary approval from local health officials for the 2021 tournament.
The event plan will be submitted to the Douglas County Health Department the first week in January and the plan is for tickets to go on sale at 10 AM on January 19th.
More information will become available in the new year; until then, CHI Health Center Omaha is thankful for the community’s patience and understanding while we all navigate the uncertainties of this pandemic. We jointly remain committed to taking the appropriate steps in order to ensure a safe and successful event.

January is National Mentoring month and the Valentine TeamMates Mentoring program would like to thank all our mentors for all you do! Let us know if you would like to be a mentor!
