A little bit late in posting but not late in appreciation of Valentine Middle School teacher Mrs. Gina Breuklander and school counselor Mrs. Candi Cronin!!! VMS Student Council has facilitated a Google form for all students to vote for their favorite teacher and support staff member each month. These two rock stars were our February nominees. Thank you for all you do!

Hello Amazing Parents, My name is Mike Donahue and I had the absolute privilege to present my program, Value Up to the students at your child’s school. It was a great day and I am truly impressed with the administration and staff at that school. I am including the talking points from the assembly so you have an idea of what I was communicating to your child when I spoke. The overall message that I am trying to convey is that they have value that goes beyond outside sources and social standards. I want them to know that their value is intrinsic and they can never lose it. As you may know, the social landscape for teenagers is a tough road to go down for so many reasons these days. I have dedicated my life to helping students, parents and educators navigate this intense season by providing resources to help communicate clearly with each other. Communication with teenagers can be challenging at times and I want to help with this. I have wrote a book called Talking to Brick Walls. I am including the introduction to this book in this email. I also have a Podcast with the same name. You can access the podcast by going to https://mikedonahueconnects.com/resources/podcast/ My goal is to put as many resources in your hands to help you with this critical time in your child’s life. It was a pleasure visiting your town and working with the staff and students at the school. Feel free to reach out to me at miked@value-up.org. Today the Standard Response Protocol was activated at Valentine High School and Valentine Elementary School. Our schools are committed to the safety and security of our students and staff. We want to clearly communicate with parents about safety issues when they arise. VHS was put into Lockdown due to a report of a shooting and VES was put in the Secure command. VHS was in Lockdown for approximately 45 minutes. Restrooms and hallways were cleared, all doors were locked, all students and staff were accounted for, and no one was allowed to enter or exit the building. VHS remained in lockdown until the command was lifted by police once they swept and cleared the school building. The Secure command at VES was lifted at that time as well. The situation has been determined to be a hoax by Valentine Police Department and the Nebraska State Patrol as there is a trend of this happening across the country at this time. These situations can frighten students. Please discuss this situation with your children and let us know if follow-up is needed at school. Counselors are available. Nebraska State Patrol has issued this statement on their Twitter: NEStatePatrolTwitter Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen will be holding a press conference at 2 p.m. today to discuss these calls.
