VES Summer Enrollment will open on Monday April 28th. Summer enrollment forms can be picked up at the Elementary office. All students who plan on attending in the summer need to have an enrollment form filled out.
The scenic wonders of the Niobrara River recently became an outdoor studio for art students from Valentine High School. Embarking on a day trip, the students visited notable landmarks such as the Norden Chute, Rocky Ford, Smith Falls, and Fort Niobrara. Their mission for the day: to absorb the sights and translate their impressions into watercolor paintings created directly in nature – a practice known as plein air.
This experience was made possible by sponsor Joan Swim, former Valentine High School art teacher with a clear passion for both art and the local landscape. "My aim was for these young artists to truly connect with the natural world through the act of painting outdoors," Swim shared. "And naturally, I wanted to share some of my favorite spots along the Niobrara!"
Working with small, polaroid-sized paper, the students focused on capturing the details of each location using watercolors.
The students found the day to be a blend of serenity and stimulation. The plein air painting excursion provided a unique and memorable learning opportunity. By directly engaging with the Niobrara's beauty through their art, they not only developed their technical abilities but also cultivated a deeper appreciation for the natural heritage of their region.
Valentine Junior High golfers kicked off their season yesterday (4/23) in Bassett, Nebraska. Valentine played against Ainsworth and West Holt. Out of 52 golfers, Valentine had 6 golfers in the top 15. Parker Wackler 3rd with a 44, Trevor Two Strike 5th with a 45, Mason Halmilton 6th with a 45, Colin Bailey 9th with a 52, Aiden Buckendahl 11th with a 54 and Jacob Nickish 13th with a 55.
Spencer Broom and Tyler fell just short of the top 15.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped us with our BOGO project at Valentine Elementary! With the help of our generous community, over 280 students will have Badger Belief Shirts. We appreciate all those who made purchases for their family members and for those who donated 133 shirts in total. We ordered our last set of shirts and all VES Badgers will have their shirts by the end of the month! Thank you, Valentine!
VES 4th Grade Field Trip to Halsey National Forest planned for tomorrow April 24 has been postponed and rescheduled to next Wednesday, April 30.
