Nebraska Personal Finance Challenge

It’s time to brag on the dual-credit Personal Finance students!  All 34 VHS personal finance students competed in the Nebraska Personal Finance challenge over the last two weeks.  It is a 30-question test made up of questions from several different personal finance curriculums.  Students picked teams of three or four and competed with their combined scores against other teams in the Western Region of Nebraska.  The top three scores of each team were used, the fourth (lowest) score was dropped.  There were 97 teams that competed in Western Nebraska and VHS claimed 3rd, 5th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 20th, 25th, & 34th places.  Pretty impressive!  Two teams have earned the spot in competing in the Western Region finals on Friday, April 29, 2022.  This means they are two of the top 18 teams in the whole state.  At this competition, each team will be given two hours to solve a financial scenario for a family.  They will put together a slideshow solution and present it in front of a panel of expert judges.  Each region (Western, Omaha, Lincoln) will crown a champion and the team that scores highest on both their original tests plus their presentation will claim the title for Nebraska and will represent Nebraska in the National Personal Finance Competition.

The 3rd place team is Jack Lancaster, Cameron Jordan, Gunnar Battershaw, and Mataya Morrison.  The 5th place team is Steven Fullerton, Maddy Pilakowski, Grace Kelber, and Kaylee Wenig.  Both of these teams will be competing for their teams and for VHS in Kearney on April 29th.  If you get the chance, congratulate these Badgers!
