Salutations

"Salutations!" said the voice. "Salu-what?" asked Wilbur. "Salutations are greetings," explained Charlotte. "When I say 'salutations,' it's just my fancy way of saying hello or good morning."
So began a friendly exchange between Charlotte and Wilbur in E.B. White's book Charlotte's Web,  and so began a friendly greeting exchange turned competition between Mr. Little and Aubrey Benson at Valentine Elementary School.  "Salutations" might be found written in chalk by Mr. Little on the sidewalk near the 5th grade morning doors or may be heard announced over the school intercom by Aubrey herself as each person attempts to be first to share the morning greeting. As this good-humored rivalry continues, classmates, and even administrators, are helping to up the ante with creative ways to be the first to share "Salutations!" greetings each day.
