The Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA) announces the completion of the Nebraska Collaborative Map Project. This innovative initiative invited individuals and school districts from each of Nebraska's 93 counties to contribute original artworks representing their unique communities, culminating in a comprehensive, statewide map that celebrates Nebraska's rich cultural and geographical diversity.
The project aims to foster community engagement and pride by encouraging participants to depict elements that make their county distinctive, such as landmarks, historical events, natural features, or cultural traditions. These individual contributions were assembled into a large-scale, collaborative map displayed in the Museum’s new Community Studio.
"This project is a testament to the power of collective creativity," said Christine Brown, the Director of Learning and Engagement at MONA. "By involving every county, we aim to create a tapestry that reflects the diverse narratives and identities that comprise Nebraska."
The Nebraska Collaborative Map Project serves as an artistic endeavor and an educational tool, providing participants and viewers alike with insights into the state's varied communities. It offers a platform for storytelling, learning, and connection among Nebraskans of all ages.
