Stay smart, safe and healthy!

Mrs. Steskal's reading and social studies classes at Valentine Middle School had a COVID-19 theme this quarter. Students read a variety of articles about how this virus was impacting people across the United States and the globe. They kept a journal in which they wrote facts they'd learned about the virus from Internet sources and the news, and then added their reactions to those facts. Some students even added their own photos to show how they were dealing with social isolation and steps they were taking to stay healthy. Students created maps to document the spread of the disease across the country using Internet sources from January through mid-April. They created legends and used color coding to compare and contrast different regions of the country. Students took a survey to see if they thought handshaking was a thing of the past, and if so, what they felt should replace it. An extra credit assignment was given to research different videos with multi-step directions to make different styles of no sew masks to prevent the spread of the virus. Sadie Johnson won “The Masked Badger Award” for her creativity in mask production.
