Great day in Art 1. A student graciously volunteered to bring horses for the class to draw and observe. Jared lined up a day and with the cooperation of his family the horses arrived just on time for their debut as models for sketching. His horse, Sonny was gentle and “well behaved” when he came to school, no need to call the principal.
Middle School runners will run first when the compete in Gordon on Sept 26. MS 5:00 (Central Time) with HS girls and HS boys to follow.
REMINDER TO STUDENTS TAKING DUAL CREDIT. The deadline for MPCC paperwork is Thursday, Sept. 19. Mrs. Kilmer has reminding you of this. The VCS Foundation is paying for 100% of all students dual-credit courses. DO NOT miss this opportunity for FREE COLLEGE CREDIT!!
VES Badgers are hard at work again this year in meeting our three school-wide expectations, be safe, be responsible, and be respectful. We will be holding a monthly assembly honoring those who have earned a badger paw or positive office referral and also to introduce the next month's focus. One name will be drawn for a special surprise. We held September's assembly on September 3rd, and pictured are all of our students who had earned a badger paw prior to that day. The name drawn was 3rd grader Alex Monroe, and on September 6, she got to have a special lunch with some of the NRSA rodeo queens who were in town. Students will also sign their name to our autograph wall in the front lobby (pictured is Javarius Reed, 5th grader, who earned two badger paws in one day). If you see a badger paw or positive office referral come home, celebrate! Good work, Badgers!
Wonder what happens when you put your receipts in the box at our grocery stores marked Valentine Community Schools? Well, it goes directly to funding new things for our schools and students. Thanks to this wonderful community for your contributions. Make sure to participate again this year by putting your receipts in those boxes!

We had some good ole fashioned fun on April Fools Day today at VES, but we like to have fun on other days besides April 1. On Thursday, March 28, the VES 5th Grade class treated the school and then later parents and the community to a fantastic musical. We have had some inquiries about the SWC basketball tournament as far as location and times. The conference does the seeding next week based on power points as they want all games possible played to make sure the seedings are correct. Once they get those they will assign the brackets and we post them as quick as we can. Recently it was approved that all boys and girls game be played on Mondays and the conference is trying to secure officials for all the possible sites to make that possible. In years past we have alternated the boys and girls games on Mondays and Tuesdays but with such a tight schedule that week it was decided to allow a snow day during that week so they are hoping to move all games to Mondays from this point forward.
Saturday's basketball games in Ogallala - The JV boys will play in the Auditorium and all other games will be played at Prairie View Elementary School.
The girls JV game on Saturday vs Minden will only be 2 quarters due to low numbers for Minden. Please plan accordingly for the start of the Girls and Boys Varsity games.
