Valentine High School 2009 Veterans Day Program

Post 90 Commander Don Nelson welcomed the filled auditorium and Dale Bessey lead the audience in the Pledge.  The National Anthem was sung by the Valentine High School’s Triple Trio.  A flag flown over the Jefferson Monument was presented to Mr. Renning by Virginia Nelsen.  Mrs. Nelsen also recognized Sam Krzyzanowski and Jordan Buechle for their Poppy Posters.  Jordan’s poster went on to win the Northwest US Division, which is 1/3 of the US.  Mr. Heinert also presented other Poppy Posters.  MOMS, Mothers of Military Sons, received the 2009 Patriotism Award.  Cherry County Service Officer, Jim Edwards was the featured speaker.  He talked about his 26 year service career, which spanned the Navy and Army.   Being the local Servicer Officer, Jim told the audience that we have 400+ Veterans in Cherry County and just this week, he added 20 more names to the list.  To end the program, Dale Bessey recognized those currently serving in the Armed Forces.  Taps was played by Chris Young, Jacob Tehrani, and Torrey Schneider.  Assisting the guests and helping with programs were Cornhusker Boys State Citizen, Zane Parkhurst and Cornhusker Girls State Citizen, Paige May.
