College Awareness Week Scavenger Hunt winners at VMS were Brandi DeNaeyer first place and Nick Hayward second. They won the contest by finding out information about where staff and administration attended, and work during their college years as well as major areas of study.
College Awareness is something we usually think of in terms of High School. No more. Experts are saying High School is too late. The seeds need to be planted early. It is beginning in Elementary, continuing into Middle School and hopefully by High School there will exist a mentality that training past High school is a given. The market place is requiring more training to achieve maintain a middle class lifestyle, or beyond.
This week was College Awareness Week at Valentine Middle School. College was used to refer to any education beyond High School. Each teacher spoke with their classes about why they chose the college they attended, how they chose their major area of study, how they paid for college, dorm and college life, how it changed their life. Students heard multiple points of view on many college related subjects. The entry way and multi purpose room were decorated with pinnat and posters of Nebraska colleges and Friday all staff wore apparel from their alma mater. Seeds were planted. Ask your Middle School students what ehy learned. It was a fun week and everybody learned something.
